Tinseltown

Topshop Metallic Cut-Away Tunic, Alice + Olivia Sequin Dress, Camille x Reformation Mars Dress

Metallics and sparkles and sequins, oh my! Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, an it couple of the 1960s, were often photographed in sparkling silver pieces by Paco Rabanne. Rabanne, famous for his metallic fashions, had a huge impact on French fashion in the 60s. Not only Jane and Serge were fans, but Françoise Hardy also rocked Rabanne (undeuxtrois).
Influences of these sixties styles can still be seen on the runway today. In the Saint Laurent Fall 2014 collection, sparkly metallic dresses nodded to Rabanne, but also screamed sixties icon Edie Sedgwick. Styled with black tights, the glittery frocks with itty-bitty hemlines were a major shout out to Warhol's factory girl.
To get the look for yourself, check out my sparkling silver picks. My favorite is the t-shirt dress from Camille Rowe's collaboration with Reformation… You can add being a fashion designer to her list of shining qualities!

  7. Serge's hair matches that silver perfectly. I love the silver dress with the high neckline; it seems so futuristic but I can see it working really well for holiday parties.
