As a little kid, comics (of the superhero genre) weren't really my thing. I did, however, have an obsession with Archie Comics, which I've become nostalgic for after seeing Charlotte Olympia's Cruise 2014 Collection. I find comics extremely aesthetically pleasing. As a fan of modern and graphic art, I love how comics incorporate primary colors, bold shapes and oversized fonts.
Comic books have undoubtedly become an inspiration for both the art and fashion worlds. At Fashion's Night Out last year, I enjoyed seeing the comic-infused 3.1 Phillip Lim collection, featuring striking "Ka-POW!" prints in red, yellow and blue.
Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein truly epitomizes the use of comic books in the art world. Through his famous polka dots, Lichtenstein created paintings that often featured wild explosions and women depicted in a variety of emotions (from crying an ocean of tears to singing a haunting tune).
You don't have to be Comic-Con crazy to incorporate a comic book look into your wardrobe. From starry, explosive shapes to simple vibrant polka dots, the cartoony vibe can easily enhance any outfit.
And with that, I leave you with a song from two of my favorite Frenchies… Shebam! Pow! Blop! Wizz!
